Written News Story

"Hey ravens! Today we have the inside scoop on the Olathe Northwest Dance Team. The rdt has finished working as a color guard for the Raven Pride Band and has now begun preparing for this seasons regionals and nationals. The dance team comes every morning at 7am to practice and workout to prepare for the competition season. During this time and Thursday night practices from 6-8, Varsity has finished learning all three of there national routines and started to cleaning those along with the home routine they learned for camp this summer. Jv has also been coming at 7am and is making just as much progress this season.

The varsity dance team has four routines that they compete at two regional competitions. These dances include there home routine from camp this summer which is lyrical/ contemporary, pom, jazz another contemporary dance, and mix. Mix is a combination of four different styles including jazz, kick, pom, and hip hop. Then in February the RDT takes a trip to Florida to compete their jazz, pom and mix routine NDA nationals" This week in e-Comm we worked on learning how to create and write a news story. This process was very difficult at the beginning but after watching a few videos and getting started it got a lot easier. A news story is similar to an inverted triangle because you start broad and get more detailed as you continue, only using the facts of course! I really enjoyed writing this news story because I got to write on something that interests me, the school dance team, and show my personality in a variety of different ways. I think I did a very good job of providing valid and important information in a short time, but for next time I would like to work on organization in my pieces because that is very important for the reader/ viewer to help understand.

Sophomore Semester Reflection 2

This semester in e-Comm we have worked on many different projects. The infographic, greeting cards, and logos were a few of my favorites. We started with the infographic which was a very long process and took the last few weeks in second quarter and the first week of third quarter. During this project one of the hardest things for me was coming up with an idea and graphics for that idea. During this project I learned a lot about organization and how important it in graphic design. Throughout the project I received feedback about fonts and colors: initially I didn't want to change anything but after trying out the colors and size oI changed the color of some of the text and color of the background. For the most part my idea stayed the same throughout the project. In the end I really liked my infographic but I think I could have done more complex graphics to push myself more. Self-Portrait Artist Statement

In my self-portrait, I chose to represent myself by recording a video of myself playing the piano. I choose to do this as my self portrait because most people don't know that I play the piano. When we watched examples of other portraits in my class I was really inspired by Regan's because to take a baking video in two minutes probably took a lot of prior planning. This shows that Regan would be a great director to have on a team in the future. There are many elements shown in my self portrait. I used books and a table sitting next to our piano to get my phone placed at the correct angle so your could see me and the piano. In addition I thought the reflection in the piano was cool so I tried to make it so you could also see my hands through the reflection. I also had to wait till the rain stopped so I would have good natural lighting form the window in that room. Quarter 4 Reflection

This quarter in e-Comm we got into groups to create a product and advertise it. we did this to show all of the skills we learned throughout the year in e9. We worked on the project the whole fourth quarter which seems to become very long and extensive. During this quarter as a group we faced many challenges. We ofter had creative block and would just sit the trying to figure out what to do. During this we learned that it was best to just take some time to focus on something else and then come back to it later. After making our first video we were told that if we tried a different idea might portray the product better so we took the advice and refilled our video. Overall I think the this quarter was very fund a great way to rap up the year. Since we had the whole class to work on the project it was very easy to get distracted, we had to use time management and stay on task.
