Graphic Design Semester Performance Review

Infographic:
Over the past three weeks in graphic design we started our final project for this semester, an infographic about a topic of our choosing. I choose to make mine about ice cream. After deciding on a topic we began with a few days of research. Next we diecided what material was the most important and made 10 simple rough drafts. After deciding which layout we liked the most we made a final sketch on paper including graphics, facts, and titles. Then we got on Adobe Illustrator to star creating or graphics. After all our graphics were finished we made a new 11x17 file and made our final inforgraphic adding the facts and titles to make it look complete.Throughout this project I have learned a lot about infographics and Adobe Illustrator. I learned it is very important to have multiple drafts to see many different layouts. I had an idea of a layout in mind but after making multiple sketches I decided on a  different layout. I also learned a lot about the pen tool which I had never used before this project, before I had mainly used the brush or shape tool. The pen tool was very useful when creating graphics because you could go back and change colors or make adjustments very easily. If I did this project again there really is not that much I would change. I feel as I used my time wisely and my final product turned out well. The one thing I think I could improve on would be research. I think if I had researched more I would have had more details to put on my infographic which would make it more interesting.

Fall Icons:
For this project we had to follow a tutorial to make nine fall icons. The tutorials told us what leaves or icons to make and what colors to make them, but the shape or size was up to us. Overall I did not struggle with this project but at times it got very hard to make my icons look like the ones on the tutorials, which really bothered me. I would say this project took me about a week and a half in class just because I wanted to icons too look the same as the tutorial which they were close but never the exact same. The cherry tree, acorns, and nuts were the easiest icons for me because I did not have to copy and shift each same section. the leaves in general were harder to make the right size and place at the right angel. Throughout this project I learned a lot about Adobe Illustrator and the different tools and keyboard shortcuts.

Panorama;
The panorama project was one of my favorites. We were asked to take 10 pictures we had taken that had a common theme and use those to make them into a panorama. I chose to use pictures from our family trip to Hawaii over winter break. This project took me about four classes to complete. It was very hard to decide where to put each picture so I restarted many times. After many times I finally decided where to put each picture and how to blend the project was very fun. Since I decided to leave the pictures in color because I wanted to show all of the different colored flowers it made it very hard to blend the pictures smoothly. I was told that if I changed the opacity of the eraser tool it would help achieve a smoother effect. Overall this was one of my favorite projects because it did not take very long and I think my final product turned out very good.

Summary:
Overall this semester I learned a lot about graphic design through Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. My favorite projects from this year were the infographic and panorama. For next year I would like to work on being more creative and always being on task in class. I always get my work done but I think if I talked a little less I would be more efficient. I will definitely work on those things next year. In graphic design I think my main strenghs are always getting my projects done, I also think I am good at using photoshop and blending pictures together as I did on the panorama.

Printing Processes

Relief Printing:  Relief Printing is a  printing process where the surface faces of the paint block are inked; empty areas are ink free. Printing the image is a simple task in inking the face of the block, making it contrast more with the paper. 1.) Prep your block, you can tone it using Indian wash or jet black film ink. 2.) Place carbon paper transfer on tip of the block. 3.) Once the paper is transferred, you have the choice of what kind of composition you want to have which will have a impact on what tool you decide to press with. 4.) Roll in over the surface of the block, then place it on the press where it is past through transferring ink to paper.  Intaglio Printing: Intaglio printing is any print making process when the image area is below the flat surface of the printing plate. The design is cut, scratched, or etched into the plate.  1.) Prepare the plate by polishing and cleaning it so that there are no scratches or marks that coul...

Color Wheel

The Project: This week in e-Comm we made color wheel! We did this project to learn the basics of adobe illustrator and color schemes. We learned about the primary and secondary colors. First we learned about good color schemes and the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. Then we were taught how to use adobe illustrator. What I learned; First we earned about color schemes. There are many different color schemes, including warm and cool colors, monochromatic, color triads, analogous colors, and complementary colors. Then we learned how to use adobe illustrator. First we created a new file using he web setting which was 800x600 pixels. Then we started making our color wheel. Then we learned about all the tools on the side and the short cuts for those tools. How it went: Overall I think making the color wheel went really well. It was very fun to learn about color and different color schemes. Also I have never used adobe before, it was hard at first but got a lot easier.

1 in 2000 feature story

The last few weeks in e-Comm we work on writing and creating our first feature story. We started by watching videos and learning about what it take to write a feature story. Then we picked directors and got into our groups. When we got into our groups we were instructed to pick a subject that did something interesting in our class. Since Jaden, Maleah, and I both participated in this years marching band we decided the Drew would be a perfect topic. Then we wrote 21 questions for Drew and 21 questions for his percussion teacher Mr.Carter. Then we got into filming. First we filmed interviews with both people and then worked for about a week trying to find and film b-roll. The final step in this project was editing which was hard than usual because there was more steps in editing feature story’s than just normal entertainment videos. We had to write and record voiceovers and decide sequencing and many other steps. Overall this project was very different than anything we have done before...
