Printing Processes

Relief Printing:  Relief Printing is a  printing process where the surface faces of the paint block are inked; empty areas are ink free. Printing the image is a simple task in inking the face of the block, making it contrast more with the paper. 1.) Prep your block, you can tone it using Indian wash or jet black film ink. 2.) Place carbon paper transfer on tip of the block. 3.) Once the paper is transferred, you have the choice of what kind of composition you want to have which will have a impact on what tool you decide to press with. 4.) Roll in over the surface of the block, then place it on the press where it is past through transferring ink to paper.  Intaglio Printing: Intaglio printing is any print making process when the image area is below the flat surface of the printing plate. The design is cut, scratched, or etched into the plate.  1.) Prepare the plate by polishing and cleaning it so that there are no scratches or marks that coul...

Hawaii Panorama

During Christmas break of 2016 my parents, my brother and I took a family vacation to Kauai on of the Hawaiian islands. A couple year before this trip we went to Hawaii fro another family vacation but were only there for 4-5 days. This trip we were there for 10 days so we got to do and see a lot more things. When we arrived at the airport in Kauai are luggage had Benn left at another airport where we had a layover, what a great start to the trip. The airport workers gave us some necessities like a toothbrush and toothpaste and other things like that. they told us we would be able to get our luggage in one or two days. We did not want to waste time waiting in the hotel so we went to a few local stores and bought swimsuits and another pair of clothes, and made the best of a bad situation.  Even though our luggage was misplaced in the airports we still had a great time as a family on our vacation. Most of our days we just spent relaxing on the beach but a few days we traveled ...

ONW Procedures Video

This week in e-Comm we got into groups and made our first video in sophomore e-Comm. First we started by getting into groups which for this project we assigned so that we could get to know new people and their video talents. I newer thing to the Olathe Schools is Power 50. A 50 min period where all students eat at the same time but can sit wherever they would like with a few restrictions. We decided to make our video on where you can and cannot eat during lunch. We started off story boarding our video to plant the story line and shot and camera angles. After doing that we presented our idea to Mrs. Zimmerli, after getting approval from her we started filming. Filming was not to hard and we got done pretty fast but after we came back to edit our footage we realized we only had about 20 seconds worthy of being in the video. We then decided that we needed to story board again and film again with more detail.  Overall I think this project went very well and was very fun. For ne...

Pop Art Project

This week in e-Comm we were challenged to take a picture of a partner in our  class and turn that picture into pop art. We were given several examples to help us with this project.  First we went outside in the court yard and took pictures of our partners my partner was Macy. I tried many different ideas. after trying 2 very colorful themes and not liking them I decided to changed my mind and decided to do mainly black and white with just a little bit of color. I made the background black. Then  I  used the paint brush tool and to add white splatter paint in the background. I also added rectangles and other shapes to the background to make it look more like pop art. Finally I added a few filters and then decided I like it and was done. Overall this project was very fun and challenging

Photoshop Challenge

This week in e-comm we were given a challenge. After watching photoshop tutorials and learning about all the essential photoshop tools we put are new skills to the test. We were given a few guidelines but other than that we were set loose and told to use are creative juices. First we were given a portrait of a man and a few nature photos the we could use if we wanted to. I was inspired but the nature pictures so I decided to use the provided pictures. I started with the jacket and changed the jacket to a picture of the side of a mountain zooming in on the rocks.  Next I added a picture of tree roots to he under shirt, but after applying that mask I thought it looked a little clustered so decided to just make the shirt a color. After making the short purple it didn't match the jacket so I decided to color balance everything to have a purple theme.  After changing the shirt to just be a plain color I decided that m...

Editing Images in Photoshop

This week in e-comm we learned how to use photoshop to edit images. First we copied images form the server then we watched tutorials to learn the best tools to edit each photo. We learned a lot of new tools and how to use them.  We stated off easy by just cropping out pieces of the background that the photographer accidentally got in his shot. As the tutorials continued we had to edit the images more. In the next two images we had to take off then move the logo on a surf board. The next few images we started to edit things that took a few more steps. We learned ho to edit little spots out of the white wall in the background. We also took the logo off the man's blue shirt.  We also learned how to edit mud or skin problems off of someones face, edit background problems, and cut a tad out of a picture of clothing.         Lastly we were given three images of a girl and we instructed to put them together like a collage. First we had to make the two...

Self-Portrait Artist Statement

In my self-portrait, I chose to represent myself by recording a video of myself playing the piano. I choose to do this as my self portrait because most people don't know that I play the piano. When we watched examples of other portraits in my class I was really inspired by Regan's because to take a baking video in two minutes probably took a lot of prior planning. This shows that Regan would be a great director to have on a team in the future. There are many elements shown in my self portrait. I used books and a table sitting next to our piano to get my phone placed at the correct angle so your could see me and the piano. In addition I thought the reflection in the piano was cool so I tried to make it so you could also see my hands through the reflection. I also had to wait till the rain stopped so I would have good natural lighting form the window in that room. In conclusion, I hope that by watching this my classmates learn that I am musically talented and that I have str...
