Sophomore Semester 2 Video Reflection

Napoleon Dynamite: For this project we were assigned to recreate a movie trailer in about a month. Over this project we faced many challenge, but are biggest challenge was scheduling. With these challenges I learned many lessons about managing time and staying focused. After turning in the project we  feedback on camera angles and focusing shots. We did not change very much because by that point the project was over and there was not much we could do in the time allowed. I the end this video was not the best quality but it resembled the actual video well and we got done everything we needed to. Short Film: For this project we started by everyone writing synopsis, treatments, and scripts then we voted as a class picking five scripts we wanted to make. After getting our groups and scripts we started pre-production deciding shots, actors, and locations. For this project our time was very limited only having three weeks to do everything.  The biggest challenges we faced was ac...

Sophomore Semester Reflection 2

This semester in e-Comm we have worked on many different projects. The infographic, greeting cards, and logos were a few of my favorites. We started with the infographic which was a very long process and took the last few weeks in second quarter and the first week of third quarter. During this project one of the hardest things for me was coming up with an idea and graphics for that idea. During this project I learned a lot about organization and how important it in graphic design. Throughout the project I received feedback about fonts and colors: initially I didn't want to change anything but after trying out the colors and size oI changed the color of some of the text and color of the background. For the most part my idea stayed the same throughout the project. In the end I really liked my infographic but I think I could have done more complex graphics to push myself more.  Later this semester we worked on making greeting cards. This project took only two weeks, first we sta...

Movie Trailer

The past few weeks in video we were challenged to recreate a movie trailer. My group was assigned the movie Napoleon Dynamite. We started by doing pre production. First we storyboarded, made lists of locations, characters, and probs and then screen recorded the video to break up each scene. Pre-production went well and we got it all done in plenty of time even though at times some of our group was very distracted. Next we got started on the filming process, which started off rough because we had to wait on our props. Once we started filming went smoothly. A lot of out clips were at school so that made it easy to film using class but it was very hard because of our schedules to film outside of school. The last few days before the video was due we finished our filming. When we were outside of school the group got very distracted but we finally got all our clips filmed. The editing process was very rushed and I think could have been better. I edited the clips we had a t school and I t...

Vector project

For this project we had to choose or take a portrait of ourself, a family member, or a pet. I decided since I didn't really have a recent and clear picture of myself to take a picture of my brother and use him for my project. After sending the picture to our computer we had to put it in photoshop and posterize the image to make it easier to distinguish the different areas and tones to trace in Illustrator. we also had to make a copy to edit and a copy to just look at. Creating this project was really like no other project we have done. I ended up really liking the project but the process was very hard. first. I started by making the big shapes and filling them which was not a good idea I think I should have started with the details. Since I started with the base it looked odd when I added the details. I learned so much during this project about many tools and got to practice and learn lots of new skills. Overall this project was very challenging for me but it was one of my favo...

Music Video

• Embed your work at the top of your blog post under your Title. These past few weeks in video we worked on recreating the Bet on It video from High School Musical 2. As a group we thought this video would be really fun to create and challenging in many ways. We also had a good idea for locations already so we thought it would be do able. We started with pre-production by dividing up the work to be efficient and effective because we wanted to have as much times as we could to film. We also decided Alex was going to act, Josh and Drew we going to mainly do the camera, and Maleah and I were going to help with choreography and making sure the video and our filming was the same and there wasn't anything weird going on. After we had footage we all edited together since we couldn't have everyone at the same time, so we had one person run editing and everyone else helping and we rotated the main editor. As a group I think we worked together really well and dealt with the issues w...

typography project

These past few weeks in graphic design we have been working on quotes in Adobe Illustrator for our typography project. We started by researching to find quotes the we liked and related to our lives. we only had to find four but at first I didn't love any of my quotes so I found about 10 and then picked my favorite four from that. then we looked at  daft.com and found fonts that we wanted to download to use in our quotes. the part was hard because a lot of the fonts I liked were similar. After the research process we started actually creating our quotes on illustrator.  First I started by typing out all my quotes in the original font. After that I organized each word and change the font then I added black and white graphics. After turning this in I made all the quotes in color. I learned a lot through this about balance in each background and about the effect a b...

semester reflection

This semester in video we did four major projects. My two favorite projects were the procedure video and ONW now story. Since the procedure video was our first video of the semester it took a little longer, we had about two weeks to do this video. As a group we faced many challenges with the new cameras and refreshing our editing abilities but after getting started our group did well. We were given a lot of feedback on our storyboarding and timing so we did the storyboard again with more details to have a better plan. Throughout this project I learned a lot about the new cameras and set expectations for video this year. With the cheer project we only had a week. With this project we did not face a lot of challenges our group picked a continent topic and used our time well. The only challenge was writing the voice over but we all worked together and finally got it done. In this project I learned a lot about team work and time management. Overall I think my videos turned out good some w...

ONW NOW Reflection

The project: This past week in e-Comm we were challenged to create a sophomore edition of ONW Now. First we got into groups and we assigned what type of story to create, my group was assigned a sports story. Then we storyboarded to plan timeframes and a b-roll plan. After filming and editing we started working on putting together the whole ONW now show. All of the anchors worked on writing a script  while the rest of the teams finished editing. Then we went downstairs to practice and film. What I Learned: Thought this process I learned it is really important to manage your time wisely. We only had a week to do this whole project so it was important t o get things done in time and meet deadlines. It was really hard to do a whole sports story all the way through in a week but since we did cheer who practices seventh hour it made it a little easier. I also learned how important it is to divide and conquer with jobs if everyone is given a individual task the team can accomplish mor...

Graphic Design Semester Performance Review

Infographic: Over the past three weeks in graphic design we started our final project for this semester, an infographic about a topic of our choosing. I choose to make mine about ice cream. After deciding on a topic we began with a few days of research. Next we diecided what material was the most important and made 10 simple rough drafts. After deciding which layout we liked the most we made a final sketch on paper including graphics, facts, and titles. Then we got on Adobe Illustrator to star creating or graphics. After all our graphics were finished we made a new 11x17 file and made our final inforgraphic adding the facts and titles to make it look complete.Throughout this project I have learned a lot about infographics and Adobe Illustrator. I learned it is very important to have multiple drafts to see many different layouts. I had an idea of a layout in mind but after making multiple sketches I decided on a  different layout. I also learned a lot about the pen tool which I had...

Advanced Feature News Story

This week in e-Comm we were challenged to do another feature story to build on our last and improve our feature filming skills. My group after a few small setback decided to make our story about one of the foreign exchange students this year. We interviewed Lea Weible for our story. Lea is involved in international club, senior committee, and was on the girls tennis team. So on one of our planning days I wrote the questions and my other team looked for and tried to download some tennis highlights from the year. It was very hard to work around everyone's' schedule to find times to film, but eventually we got time to interview her and film international club during lunch. After finishing filming we started to edit and shortly realized we did not have enough b-roll so the editing process has been hard. This project was very hard for our group because it seemed like we never had everyone there and we did not communicate very well as a team so it seemed like one person was just ...

1 in 2000 feature story

The last few weeks in e-Comm we work on writing and creating our first feature story. We started by watching videos and learning about what it take to write a feature story. Then we picked directors and got into our groups. When we got into our groups we were instructed to pick a subject that did something interesting in our class. Since Jaden, Maleah, and I both participated in this years marching band we decided the Drew would be a perfect topic. Then we wrote 21 questions for Drew and 21 questions for his percussion teacher Mr.Carter. Then we got into filming. First we filmed interviews with both people and then worked for about a week trying to find and film b-roll. The final step in this project was editing which was hard than usual because there was more steps in editing feature story’s than just normal entertainment videos. We had to write and record voiceovers and decide sequencing and many other steps. Overall this project was very different than anything we have done before...

Printing Processes

Last week in e-Comm we learned about printing processes. We watched videos to learn about the basics and then were asked to write a blog post to check out understanding. Then we started on trying out our own printing process called transfer printing. We started by picking one or two of our favorite projects we have done this year in e-Comm. Then we filled our image and printed them out. The next day we watercolored two different papers to transfer our projects to. After everyone was done with watercolor and all our papers are dry we learned the next step in the printing process. First we added mod podge to the back of our paper that we wanted to transfer to the watercolor. Then we used the squeegee to push out the air bubbles and extra mod podge. After that had dried we used water to rub off the paper and were left with our prints. Overall I think this project was very fun ad not extremely hard but I still learned a lot. This has probably been my favorite project in graphic desig...

Printing Processes

Relief Printing:  Relief Printing is a  printing process where the surface faces of the paint block are inked; empty areas are ink free. Printing the image is a simple task in inking the face of the block, making it contrast more with the paper. 1.) Prep your block, you can tone it using Indian wash or jet black film ink. 2.) Place carbon paper transfer on tip of the block. 3.) Once the paper is transferred, you have the choice of what kind of composition you want to have which will have a impact on what tool you decide to press with. 4.) Roll in over the surface of the block, then place it on the press where it is past through transferring ink to paper.  Intaglio Printing: Intaglio printing is any print making process when the image area is below the flat surface of the printing plate. The design is cut, scratched, or etched into the plate.  1.) Prepare the plate by polishing and cleaning it so that there are no scratches or marks that coul...

Hawaii Panorama

During Christmas break of 2016 my parents, my brother and I took a family vacation to Kauai on of the Hawaiian islands. A couple year before this trip we went to Hawaii fro another family vacation but were only there for 4-5 days. This trip we were there for 10 days so we got to do and see a lot more things. When we arrived at the airport in Kauai are luggage had Benn left at another airport where we had a layover, what a great start to the trip. The airport workers gave us some necessities like a toothbrush and toothpaste and other things like that. they told us we would be able to get our luggage in one or two days. We did not want to waste time waiting in the hotel so we went to a few local stores and bought swimsuits and another pair of clothes, and made the best of a bad situation.  Even though our luggage was misplaced in the airports we still had a great time as a family on our vacation. Most of our days we just spent relaxing on the beach but a few days we traveled ...

ONW Procedures Video

This week in e-Comm we got into groups and made our first video in sophomore e-Comm. First we started by getting into groups which for this project we assigned so that we could get to know new people and their video talents. I newer thing to the Olathe Schools is Power 50. A 50 min period where all students eat at the same time but can sit wherever they would like with a few restrictions. We decided to make our video on where you can and cannot eat during lunch. We started off story boarding our video to plant the story line and shot and camera angles. After doing that we presented our idea to Mrs. Zimmerli, after getting approval from her we started filming. Filming was not to hard and we got done pretty fast but after we came back to edit our footage we realized we only had about 20 seconds worthy of being in the video. We then decided that we needed to story board again and film again with more detail.  Overall I think this project went very well and was very fun. For ne...

Pop Art Project

This week in e-Comm we were challenged to take a picture of a partner in our  class and turn that picture into pop art. We were given several examples to help us with this project.  First we went outside in the court yard and took pictures of our partners my partner was Macy. I tried many different ideas. after trying 2 very colorful themes and not liking them I decided to changed my mind and decided to do mainly black and white with just a little bit of color. I made the background black. Then  I  used the paint brush tool and to add white splatter paint in the background. I also added rectangles and other shapes to the background to make it look more like pop art. Finally I added a few filters and then decided I like it and was done. Overall this project was very fun and challenging

Photoshop Challenge

This week in e-comm we were given a challenge. After watching photoshop tutorials and learning about all the essential photoshop tools we put are new skills to the test. We were given a few guidelines but other than that we were set loose and told to use are creative juices. First we were given a portrait of a man and a few nature photos the we could use if we wanted to. I was inspired but the nature pictures so I decided to use the provided pictures. I started with the jacket and changed the jacket to a picture of the side of a mountain zooming in on the rocks.  Next I added a picture of tree roots to he under shirt, but after applying that mask I thought it looked a little clustered so decided to just make the shirt a color. After making the short purple it didn't match the jacket so I decided to color balance everything to have a purple theme.  After changing the shirt to just be a plain color I decided that m...

Editing Images in Photoshop

This week in e-comm we learned how to use photoshop to edit images. First we copied images form the server then we watched tutorials to learn the best tools to edit each photo. We learned a lot of new tools and how to use them.  We stated off easy by just cropping out pieces of the background that the photographer accidentally got in his shot. As the tutorials continued we had to edit the images more. In the next two images we had to take off then move the logo on a surf board. The next few images we started to edit things that took a few more steps. We learned ho to edit little spots out of the white wall in the background. We also took the logo off the man's blue shirt.  We also learned how to edit mud or skin problems off of someones face, edit background problems, and cut a tad out of a picture of clothing.         Lastly we were given three images of a girl and we instructed to put them together like a collage. First we had to make the two...

Self-Portrait Artist Statement

In my self-portrait, I chose to represent myself by recording a video of myself playing the piano. I choose to do this as my self portrait because most people don't know that I play the piano. When we watched examples of other portraits in my class I was really inspired by Regan's because to take a baking video in two minutes probably took a lot of prior planning. This shows that Regan would be a great director to have on a team in the future. There are many elements shown in my self portrait. I used books and a table sitting next to our piano to get my phone placed at the correct angle so your could see me and the piano. In addition I thought the reflection in the piano was cool so I tried to make it so you could also see my hands through the reflection. I also had to wait till the rain stopped so I would have good natural lighting form the window in that room. In conclusion, I hope that by watching this my classmates learn that I am musically talented and that I have str...
